Competent, continuous support makes social integration easier for people in need – through practical, hands-on help. The aim is to enable them to live and work without dependency.
The main services
Work
Working out together where and in which sector employment might be possible.
Help with CVs and applications.
Active job search: applications sent on the person's behalf, contact with the employment office, use of our own network of agencies and companies.
Support in the new job too – we stay the contact point for both employee and employer.
Debt and debt collection
Important: DaN Basel does not provide money itself.
We help restructure debt, to create a future free of worry.
In debt collection proceedings we look for a workable solution or avert the costs – through foundations or a creditor waiving the claim.
Dealing with authorities
Mediation where things are unclear between a person and an office.
Drafting important documents, making calls and enquiries on their behalf.
On request, coming along to meetings with case workers.
For people with a migration background, help obtaining a permit.
Mainly social welfare, employment, refugee support and migration offices.
For complex problems, a lawyer we work with is available.
Housing
Finding suitable flats, arranging viewings, being there, negotiating with the landlord.
Clarifying with the authorities who covers the deposit, if needed with a foundation.
Being present at handovers if the office or the tenant wishes.
Help with household insurance.
If the budget for furnishing is too small, we look for donations.
Getting hold of things
Clarifying what people need and helping to obtain everyday or urgently needed items.
Appeals for donations, requests to foundations, asking companies for goods in kind.
Searching online and by phone to get things cheaply or donated.
Items are brought to the person or handed over on a Tuesday.
From a shopping trolley to a laptop, a bicycle or a wheelchair.
Simply being there
The most important task: always having an open ear and being reachable.
Showing humanity and sympathy, and treating people as worthy and equal regardless of their situation.
On site on Tuesdays, otherwise reachable daily by phone or email.
Christmas
Fundraising so the Christmas party can happen and children get one wish fulfilled.
Every present is bought personally.
Negotiating affordable prices with partners, organising the venue.
After Christmas, a photo card, a thank-you letter and a donation receipt go to every supporter.
General tasks
Integration of people with a migration background.
Organising food collections and contacting retailers.
Procuring what DaN needs to operate.
Love clothes people
Boutique DaN
The clothing hand-out takes place weekly. People in need find well-kept clothes, shoes, fabrics, bed linen and accessories here, for a symbolic amount. Carola is supported by Jrene and Ramona.
We offer unemployed people, welfare and disability benefit recipients, asylum seekers and others the chance to work with us voluntarily but reliably. That strengthens self-confidence and fosters dignity and mutual respect. We welcome applications to volunteer in the boutique.
